Driver who may have been racing dies after crashing into Houston funeral home, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A driver killed in a crash was racing before he lost control and slammed into a funeral home in Acres Homes, according to what police said witnesses told them.

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. on W Montgomery near W. Mt Houston Road.

Houston police said a driver was going northbound on W Montgomery, and was told by witnesses that he may have been racing another vehicle, when he lost control and hit a curb before rolling and landing at the Paradise Funeral Home.

The driver was ejected and died at the scene.

His passenger, a woman, was transported to the hospital with some injuries. She is expected to survive.

Authorities don’t have much information about the other vehicle that may have been involved other than it was white and fled the scene.

Police are looking for surveillance video to see if it captured the other vehicle and its driver.
