Man fatally shoots brother-in-law, who had fired shotgun into apartment, White Settlement police say

A man fatally shot his shotgun-wielding brother-in-law during a domestic disturbance Friday in White Settlement, police say.

Officers were called about 12:30 p.m. to the 8100 block of Foxfire Lane, near Saddle Hill Park, where a shooting had been reported.

According to police, a woman and her husband had been involved in a domestic disturbance about 15 minutes earlier. The woman took her three children to a downstairs neighbor’s apartment, where other relatives were located.

The husband followed and demanded to see the children, threatening to shoot down the door, police said.

When the husband shot through the door with a 12-gauge shotgun, the woman’s brother returned fire with several rounds from an assault-style rifle, police said, striking the husband as well as two vehicles parked outside.

The husband, whose name was not released, was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and pronounced dead.

Authorities are investigating, and police said the brother and witnesses all are cooperating. No charges have been filed.
