HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The only person charged so far in 5-year-old Samuel Olson’s disappearance and death is due in court today.
It will be the first time we see Theresa Balboa since her arrest last week.
It’s been three days since Balboa was transported back to Houston from the Jasper County Jail, and she is expected to appear in person at her second court proceeding.
Our cameras were there Friday morning when Balboa arrived in the back of a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office vehicle into the jail.
Balboa is now charged with tampering with evidence, in particular a human corpse, in connection with the death of 5-year-old Samuel.
On Friday, Balboa did not appear in court, but a judge set her bond at $500,000.
It was last Tuesday that a child’s body was found inside a Jasper motel room and, according to court documents, Balboa was also inside that room when police entered. Her connection to Samuel is through his father, Dalton, who she was dating at the time when Samuel disappeared.
Over the weekend, we also heard from Balboa’s ex-boyfriend, whom she was with for about 10 years. They have two daughters, but Balboa no longer has custody of them. Alex Rizo shared his disbelief about what the mother of his children is accused of.
“I’ve known that girl for a long time and I know that she’s had problems. I know that she’s had a difficult life, but you never think, I would never have thought something of this magnitude would ever happen,” Rizo said.
Balboa is scheduled to appear in court at 9 a.m.
