20-year-old man arrested in robbery, sexual assault of elderly woman in Richardson

A 20-year-old man has been arrested more after authorities say he forced his way into an elderly woman’s home to rob and sexually assault her last month.

David Austin Gonzales faces charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated robbery in connection with the May 22 incident. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Police said that a woman living at a senior community in the 500 block of Rockingham Lane heard a knock on her door that night and that a man forced his way in after she answered the door. KTVT-TV (Channel 11) reported that the 90-year-old victim was hospitalized after the attack.

Evidence from the scene connected Gonzales to the case, police said.

He was arrested Monday in Dallas, and police said he confessed to the attack as well as multiple burglaries in that area.

Court records show Gonzales pleaded guilty to three felony charges in March and was sentenced to two years of deferred-adjudication probation. A misdemeanor charge of vehicular burglary against him was dismissed as part of the plea deal.

Gonzales was charged with theft stemming from an Oct. 13 incident in which police say he stole another man’s car. He also had been indicted on charges of evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle from an Oct. 22 incident where authorities say he fled police in a stolen vehicle.

Authorities sought last week to revoke his probation, saying that he had not reported to his supervision officer and had failed to comply with other terms of the punishment.
