Plano police collecting items for crime victims impacted by domestic violence, child abuse, murder

The Plano police department is collecting items to help victims of crime.

The collection is for the annual Evening of Empowerment hosted by the Collin County Crime Victims Council, according to the police department. The event honors crime victims and their families and provides them with common household and personal care items to help them with everyday living needs.

According to the council, 35% of its clients have been impacted by crimes such as domestic violence, child abuse, rape, assault and murder. The crimes have a “devastating physical, financial and emotional impact” on victims, according to the council’s website.

Some of the needed items are:

  • Cleaning products (disinfectant wipes, multipurpose cleaners, toilet bowl cleanser and dish soap)
  • Laundry detergent, fabric softeners and dryer sheets
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Body wash or soap
  • Feminine products such as pads and tampons
  • Toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Cleaning sponges
  • Deodorant
  • Hand soap
  • Baby care items such as diapers, wipes, baby food and baby formula

Items may be dropped off in the victim services suite at the Plano police department, 909 14th St., before Aug. 3.

More information is available by calling the department’s victim services program at 972-941-2680.
