Oppressive heat through the weekend

Friday will feature a continuation of the hot and muggy weather. A heat advisory is in effect this afternoon through 7 p.m. Saturday from DFW and points east. Heat index readings will range from 104 to 108. There is also an air quality alert for low level pollution. Rain and thunderstorm chances today will be mainly limited to Central Texas.

The weekend will mostly sunny, hot and humid with afternoon highs around 100. Heat index values will reach or exceed 105 degrees. A pattern shift late this weekend will bring cooler weather and increased rain chances to North Texas. Rain chances will increase late Sunday as a cold front approaches from the north. Scattered showers and storms will persist into mid week along with a drop in daily temperatures.
