Chase on Katy Freeway leaves 1 injured, sheriff says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A routine traffic stop along the Katy Freeway prompted a chase that left one person shot and injured.

According to a tweet posted by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies were trying to pull a driver over Thursday afternoon when the chase started.

It ultimately ended on the Katy Freeway near Mason Road.

Gonzalez said the driver of the vehicle “suffered a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound” and said two people were detained.

The driver was rushed to the hospital via Life Flight.

A Harris County deputy reportedly shot his gun during the incident, according to Gonzalez. It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but authorities said deputies were not injured.

The incident is now being investigated by the Houston Police Department since the chase happened within city limits.
