Hot and humid with afternoon storms, a classic Houston summer pattern

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The forecast in both the short term and longer-range look to be about as “classic Houston” is it gets. This weekend we’ll see high temperatures in the mid 90s with plenty of humidity pushing feels-like temps to around 105 degrees. We’ll still get to see a chance for some cooling downpours, with any morning coastal showers gradually building inland and bringing thunderstorm chances area-wide by the afternoon.

You can expect to see more sunshine in the afternoon than in days past, but we still have a 30% chance of rain for today, down to 20% for Sunday.

Daytime heating could help fire up some scattered storms, but the coverage will be isolated. Here’s what’s possible today.

What can we expect for the rest of the weekend?
Sunday will be even drier and hotter than Saturday. Temperatures could reach into the upper 90s with only a 20% chance of a cooling afternoon downpour.

Is there anything to be concerned about in the tropics?
At this time, no, but we are monitoring a few tropical waves over the Atlantic and Africa for potential developing as we get deeper into August. You can stay on top of everything happening in the tropics with our daily tropical update.
