7 taken to hospital after electrical malfunction on Mr. Freeze ride at Six Flags in Arlington

Seven people were taken to a hospital after a ride at Six Flags Over Texas experienced an electrical malfunction Sunday evening, officials said. All were treated and released.

Arlington firefighters responded to a call about a fire on the amusement park’s Mr. Freeze: Reverse Blast ride about 6:30 p.m., according to a Six Flags spokesman.

The Fire Department said the incident took place in the tunnel portion of the ride. A Six Flags spokesman said all guests and staffers exited the ride in minutes.

When firefighters arrived, they found that Six Flags employees had already put out the fire using portable extinguishers. Fire crews ventilated the area of smoke and left the scene with Six Flags Public Safety, officials said.

One employee was treated for minor injuries, the Fire Department said. Six other guests were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution.

An initial investigation shows that the cause of the smoke was an electrical malfunction, according to the amusement park.
