Triple digit heat Monday, potential for historic heatwave this week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We hit 100 Father’s Day for time since August of 2020.

For as hot as it got on Father’s Day, it looks to get several degrees hotter later this week.

If it’s heating up that much this weekend, how high will the heat index get?
Great question! In order for temperatures in Houston to get to 105 (or hotter) the air must be very dry. Dew points usually drop into the 50s, and that actually makes the heat index read lower than the actual temperature. So assuming we do get that hot this weekend, it will feel more like an oven than a sauna.

What’s the hottest temperature ever recorded in Houston in June?
The hottest June temperature ever recorded in Houston is 107F on the 29th in 2013.

Are there any other chances for rain?
Rain will be tough to come by in this weather pattern. A massive heat ridge will sit overhead through next weekend. The latest data is beginning to hint at a better chance for rain around Monday June 27th.

Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
While no development is expected over the next five days, long range indications suggest we could see our first development from a tropical wave deep in the Atlantic the last few days of June. You can stay informed on everything happening in the tropics all season long with our daily tropical update.
