Storms end but heat continues

A weak summertime cold front located across North Texas brought more scattered thunderstorms to the area Saturday afternoon and evening.

But the most widespread storms formed north of Interstate 20, with little rain in Dallas-Fort Worth and no rain at all for DFW Airport. A few storms produced lightning, brief downpours and strong wind gusts up to 50 mph. But they will all dissipate by sundown.

Highs still reached 100 at DFW Saturday, but 90s were common in far northern sections of North Texas. Widespread triple digits will return next week with no chance of additional rain.

Our streak of rain-free weather at DFW Airport has now reached 57 days, the 4th longest on record. DFW has also reached 100 degrees 15 consecutive days. The temperature has now reached 100 degrees or higher 35 times this summer. And the heat and drought will both continue for the next few weeks.
