1 killed, 1 injured in west Oak Cliff shooting, police say

A person was killed and another was wounded in a shooting late Saturday in west Oak Cliff, Dallas police said.

Officers were called just before midnight to the 2000 block of Keats Drive in a field near Texas Drive, near South Westmoreland Road and West Illinois Avenue.

Responding officers found 22-year-old Isarel Martinez in the field with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital and later died, police said.

Police said Martinez showed up at the field after a fight broke out involving 24-year-old Jacob Bautista. It’s unclear what led to the fight.

According to police, Martinez had a gun and pointed it at people before handing it to Bautista. Bautista then beat someone using the gun, police allege.

Someone in the crowd shot at both Martinez and Bautista, police said. It’s unclear who fired at them.

Bautista was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries. He was in stable condition as of Sunday morning.

Bautista faces an aggravated assault charge, police said.

The case will be referred to the Dallas County Grand Jury, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
