Richland Hills officers fatally shoot man armed with semi-automatic rifle, police say

Police fatally shot an armed man Friday afternoon along the Richland Hills-North Richland Hills border, authorities say.

About 3:10 p.m., two Richland Hills officers responded to the 7000 block of Hardisty Street regarding a man who was reportedly shooting in the street, police spokeswoman Sheena McEachran said.

After a brief search, the man was located in the 7000 block of 26 Boulevard in neighboring North Richland Hills, less than a mile away.

When officers tried to engage with the man, he pointed a semi-automatic rifle toward them, McEachran said.

The officers then shot the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity was not released.

McEachran said it’s not known how many times the man was shot.

No other injuries were reported. The names of the officers involved in the shooting were not released.

McEachran said the incident was isolated and there is no threat to the community.

Police from Haltom City and North Richland Hills responded to the shooting. The Texas Rangers will conduct an investigation into the shooting.

Anyone with information about the incident may contact Richland Hills police at 817-427-7031.
