6-year-old dies after being struck by SUV in Grand Prairie; driver arrested

A 6-year-old boy was killed over the weekend after he was struck by a vehicle in Grand Prairie.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, the child was crossing a street near the 2700 block of Regency Drive when he was hit by an SUV, police said.

The boy, whose name was not released by police, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police said the driver of the vehicle, Herschel Pearson, 35, is believed to have been drunk during the crash, which occurred just north of the intersection of State Highway 360 and Post and Paddock Road. The man was arrested and is facing a intoxication manslaughter charge, a second degree felony, officials added.

His bond had not been set Sunday afternoon.
