Front brings a fall-feel to the air next week as tropical system moves into Gulf

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Our first full day of fall will bring more summer-like heat that could take more record highs.

Winds will again be light overnight, so temperatures will cool off into the low-to-mid 70s and leave a lot of dew on the ground around sunrise. Sunshine will warm temperatures into the upper 90s with a slight Gulf breeze kicking in during the afternoon.

An Ozone Pollution Watch is also in effect. Ozone is a lung irritant that can trigger asthma attacks in sensitive individuals.

How long will this heat stick around

Record highs will continue to be challenged through Monday. That’s when our “fall-ish” front will arrive.

A “fall-ish” front? Tell us more!

You got it! This front will arrive Monday and deliver a crushing blow to the muggy Gulf air. Low temperatures will drop into the 60s behind the front, and the humidity will tank. High temperatures will drop into the upper 80s, and there’s even an outside chance some of you will wake up to morning lows in the 50s one or two mornings next week!

What’s happening in the tropics?

We are still closely monitoring a tropical disturbance over the Caribbean. It will likely become the first Gulf hurricane of the season. We still believe the most likely path is through the eastern half of the Gulf of Mexico, but we have to respect it since it hasn’t fully formed.
