Good news awaits Houston residents and workers along Westheimer Road as the City of Houston and METRO initiate a significant project to reconstruct and repave a six-mile segment from the West Loop to downtown.
This endeavor includes comprehensive improvements such as lane repairs, repaving, and reconstruction, alongside the installation of new sidewalks, safer crossings, and the addition of 50 new bus stops.
Mayor John Whitmire expressed optimism during a press conference, highlighting this project as a fresh start in addressing Houston’s infrastructure challenges.
Notably, this area has seen a higher rate of fatal accidents compared to other parts of the city, making this makeover a critical investment in safety.
Construction for the Westheimer project kicked off last month and is part of METRO’s broader 19-mile initiative, BOOST 82 Westheimer.
