Man found shot to death inside apartment in Cypress Station, neighbors escape injury

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A man in his 20s was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in his apartment Tuesday morning.

The scary scene unfolded just before 10 a.m. at an apartment complex on Cypress Station, and it led to neighbors ducking for cover.

“I was terrified,” Taheera Poe, who lives on the other side of the wall where the young man was hit, said. “Can you imagine being in your house and hearing, not simple gunshots? But like ‘boom, boom, boom, boom.’ It came through the walls. That’s past scary for me!”

When the gunfire stopped, Poe was relieved to find out that while her bathroom was shot up, nobody in her apartment was hurt.

“It appears it happened inside the apartment. Multiple shots were fired,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said at the scene. “The bullets crossed into at least two other apartments that we know of.”

Investigators believe this was not a random shooting. They say the young man and the suspect likely had prior dealings, though they don’t yet know of the connection. Witnesses reported seeing someone drive a getaway car, but details were murky.

“I used to come out every morning smoking a cigarette, and I heard a ‘BOOM,'” BJ Fletcher, another resident who saw the shooting, said. “Then the neighbor came out screaming.”

Gonzalez said the only way to solve these types of crimes is for neighbors to speak up, and tell law enforcement what they know.

“All it takes is just one call. We hope someone has a conscious and thinks these people are dangerous, they could hurt multiple other people. Please, help us identify who they are and get off the streets quickly,” he said.
