Sunday showers could keep temperatures in the 70s most of the day

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A weak front has made it through Southeast Texas, but you won’t feel too much of a difference overnight. That said, Sunday’s high will stay far way from 90 because of cloudy weather disturbance blowing in from South Texas.

Sunday morning we will be watching the sky to our southwest for that disturbance to bring widespread showers to our coastal counties, especially the ones that touch Matagorda Bay. The disturbance will track right along the coast to bring higher rain chances south of Houston. Showers are still possible in Houston and to the north of I-10, but it’s a lower chance at 30%. Extensive clouds should keep high temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s for most in Southeast Texas. The good news is we are not expecting a washout like what occurred last weekend on Mother’s Day.

What’s the weather outlook for next week?

It now looks like a lagging weather disturbance will keep a small chance for showers going through at least Monday morning. Drier air filtering in behind it late Monday should bring slightly cooler weather Tuesday morning with lows in the mid 60s. By Wednesday and Thursday storm chances are back as upper level winds try to send thunderstorm complexes from North Texas this way. Temperatures will be seasonal throughout the week with lows in the upper 60s and highs in the upper 80s.

How is the weather looking for Memorial Day weekend?

While it’s still a long ways off, the signal right now from the expected weather pattern is sunny, hot, and dry conditions for Memorial Day weekend. How hot? We’re talking highs in the low 90s with heat index values in the upper 90s, which is par for the course this time of year.
