The triple-digit heat is expected to remain in Dallas through at least the end of the week.
The National Weather Service extended its excessive heat advisory for most of North Texas, including Dallas, Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties, though 8 p.m. Wednesday. Heat index values, which measure what it feels like outside, will be between 110 and 115, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).
Temperatures in Dallas broke 100 degrees on Sunday, the first triple-digit day in the city this year. NBC5′s forecast calls for daily highs to remain in the 100s through Saturday before dropping to a comparatively cool 97 on Sunday. Lows each night are forecast to be in the low 80s and high 70s.
The hottest day this week in Dallas will likely be Wednesday, with a high of 107 in the forecast. The record for June 28 is 112 degrees, set in 1980.

The weather service and local health officials have urged people to take precautions if they’re going to be outside, like drinking extra water and seeking shade, in an effort to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to 16 environmental emergency calls — with eight people taken to the hospital — in an eight-hour stretch on Monday, department spokesperson Jason Evans said.
MedStar, which provides emergency medical services to Fort Worth and areas surrounding the city, said it treated 25 patients for heat-related illnesses on Monday, with 19 of them needing further treatment at hospitals. Two of the patients were children left in hot cars.
“That is the most in one day so far this year,” MedStar spokesman Matt Zavadsky said in a news release.
In addition to the excessive heat advisory, ERCOT, the state’s main grid operator, has issued a weather watch through Friday in anticipation of high electricity demand amid hot conditions. This does not mean rolling blackouts are expected or that the operator will call for energy conservation.
