‘Breezy,’ dry Halloween night expected following cold, wet Monday, NWS says

Many parts of North Texas will be cold and damp Monday, but precipitation is expected to clear up by Halloween and a chilly evening is in store for trick-or-treaters Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

A cold front swept across Dallas-Fort Worth over the weekend, pushing temperatures down to the 40s Sunday afternoon, according to the weather service. Showers and temperatures in the upper 30s were expected Sunday evening, according to NWS Fort Worth.

Areas along the Trinity River in Dallas County experienced “minor flooding” and were under a flood warning through Monday evening, the NWS website showed.

Rain was expected to die down by Monday afternoon, according to the NWS forecast, but temperatures will remain in the 40s throughout the day, the weather service said. Multiple counties, including Collin, Denton and Parker, were under a freeze watch from Monday evening to Tuesday morning, according to the NWS Fort Worth website.

Temperatures in some parts of North Texas are expected to be below freezing on the morning of Halloween, the national weather service said. In Dallas and Fort Worth, the temperatures for Tuesday morning are 36 and 34, respectively, according to NWS Fort Worth.

Conditions will warm up slightly throughout Tuesday, and no precipitation is in the forecast for the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Halloween night, said Jason Dunn, a meteorologist for NWS Fort Worth. The high expected in the D-FW area on Tuesday is 56, according to the KXAS-TV forecast.

“It’ll be a little breezy, too, so that’ll make it feel colder,” Dunn said, adding that the “feels-like” temperature will be in the mid-to-upper 40s.

Last year, the high temperature expected on Halloween was 78, Dunn said. The coldest Halloween on record for the area was in 1991, with the a high of 43, he added.
