Suspect still at large after woman shot during disturbance in SW Houston, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman was hospitalized after being shot during a disturbance in southwest Houston on Friday, according to police.

The Houston Police Department responded to the incident at about 3:45 p.m. along Beechnut Street. SkyEye flew over the scene of an apartment complex where a heavy police presence surrounded the area.

HPD Lt. Larry Crowson said an officer who first arrived at the scene saw the shooter take out a gun and fire at the woman.

Crowson said gunfire was heard during the officer’s call, so multiple officers were called out to the scene.

The responding officer was able to put a tourniquet on the victim before she was taken to the hospital in stable condition, Crowson said.

The suspect is not in custody and is described as a Black male with no shirt wearing blue sweatpants. Crowson said he may be the victim’s current or ex-boyfriend.

The suspect reportedly ran into a nearby apartment complex, where officers set up a perimeter.

“Apartment complex looks like it’s about 50% vacant apartments, so a lot of hiding places, officers started canvassing the apartment complex,” Crowson explained. “Got second-hand information that the suspect might have gone in one of the vacant apartments. We got some officers together, made entry into that apartment, along with our K9 officers, and the suspect was not inside the apartment.”
