At least 8 vehicles, including fire truck, involved in crash near DFW Airport, police say

A crash involving a Grapevine Fire Department truck caused road closures Monday morning near DFW International Airport, police said.

In a Facebook post shortly after 11:30 a.m., Grapevine police said officers were working a “large multi-vehicle crash” that occurred in the southbound lanes of State Highway 121, just north of DFW Airport.

At least eight vehicles, including a Grapevine Fire Department truck, was involved in the crash, the post stated. One person was injured and taken to a hospital, according to police. In an email Monday afternoon, Josie London, a Grapevine police spokesperson, said the person’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

No firefighters or police officers were injured in the crash, London added.

Police said the crash occurred when a passing vehicle struck a fire engine that was helping block the roadway in response to an unrelated crash, according to the Facebook post. The Grapevine Fire Department confirmed the crash in a post on its Facebook page.

“It is believed that the road conditions played a part in that crash and subsequent crashes,” London said. “Additionally, drivers going too fast for the road conditions may have also been a factor.”

In an update to its original post Monday afternoon, Grapevine police said the roadway near the crash is no longer closed, but asked motorists to use caution on roads.

“Please stay home if you are able. If you must travel, try to avoid elevated roads, bridges and overpasses that may be covered in ice. No matter what road you are on, slow down and use extreme caution,” the post read.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a hard freeze warning for many parts of North Texas, including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton counties. The warning is set to expire 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the NWS Fort Worth website.
