Eclipse experts are advising people to secure safe viewing glasses in preparation for an upcoming eclipse event.

Just a few months ago, spectators gathered across the state to witness an annular eclipse, offering a glimpse of what’s to come on April 8 when the moon will completely obscure the sun.

President of the Space Society of North Texas, Ken Ruffin, anticipates the upcoming total solar eclipse and has been preparing for the event for two years. He emphasized the unique experience the eclipse brings, with sudden darkness, cooler temperatures, and changes in animal behavior.

Ruffin will be presenting at a celebration at the Frontiers of Flight Museum on the big day, joining numerous events across North Texas to observe a spectacle not seen in over a century. Jo Trazila, the founder of Total Eclipse DFW, highlighted that more than one million people are expected to travel to the region for the event. Consequently, she urged individuals to secure eclipse glasses now to ensure safe viewing, cautioning against fraudulent sellers claiming ISO compliance or NASA approval.

Trazila emphasized the importance of avoiding risks to eye damage, and she advised the public to be cautious and check for legitimate suppliers. For safety tips and a list of approved suppliers, she recommended visiting the American Astronomical Society.
