The Denton County community continues to be under a boil water order following a fatal accident

A Denton County community is moving closer to restoring full water service after a tragic water main break claimed a life.

The incident occurred on Thursday in Providence Village.

Efforts to ensure access to potable water for every resident continued on Sunday afternoon through the distribution of bottled water cases.

Providence Village Mayor Linda Inman stated that residents could receive water without leaving their vehicles, provided they presented proof of residency.

“We’re currently distributing about 100 cases of water per hour,” Inman noted.

Volunteers from the Denton County Medical Reserve Corp and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) facilitated the distribution of water cases and offered assistance to the master-planned community of just over 7,000 residents.

“I’ve been working closely with them to ensure water distribution to our residents while we remain under a boil notice,” Inman remarked.

The boil order has been in effect since shortly after the fatal accident on Thursday.

Emergency crews responded to a water main break where two workers were trapped while working at the base of the Providence Village water tower.

One of the workers, Jesus Perez Vasquez, tragically lost his life. His family informed NBC 5 that the 29-year-old man had been married for just three months before the incident.

While investigations are ongoing, crews labored over the weekend to repair the damaged water main, and the work is now completed.

Although water service has been restored, the boil order remained in place on Sunday evening pending lab results from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

“We’re uncertain whether it will be lifted tomorrow or Tuesday,” Inman mentioned. “It depends on when we receive those results and whether retesting is necessary.”
