According to records, a man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of a victim whose body was discovered in an apartment in Southeast Houston

In southeast Houston, Stephen Johnson’s body was discovered wrapped in a closet more than a year ago, leading to the conviction of the individual responsible for his death. According to records, the convicted individual, Zachary Charles Douglas, will serve a 20-year prison sentence.

Johnson’s remains were found on October 3, 2022, at the Redford Apartments located in the 1300 block of Redford Street. Authorities launched an investigation after a report of a foul odor and flies near the apartment’s door.

Following months of investigation and public appeals for information, Zachary Charles Douglas was arrested on January 12, 2023, initially for an unrelated charge. Subsequently, he was charged with Johnson’s murder.

An autopsy determined that Johnson succumbed to blunt force trauma, with investigators estimating his death occurred on or around August 21, 2022.

Recent records indicate that Douglas pleaded guilty to the murder of Johnson and received a 20-year prison sentence. However, the motive behind Johnson’s murder remains undisclosed.
