Ennis city officials and local businesses are gearing up for significant crowds expected during the total solar eclipse on April 8

Ennis, a small town, is preparing for the arrival of visitors for the total eclipse on April 8.

In Ennis’ historic downtown area, Morgan Ruffin, owner of Fern In the Wild restaurant and store, eagerly anticipates the upcoming eclipse.

“It’s going to be incredible,” Ruffin expressed. “A once-in-a-lifetime event.”

Ruffin is already making arrangements for the expected surge in visitors.

“There’s a lot of preparation involved,” Ruffin noted. “We’re looking into additional inventory, ordering extra food, and adjusting schedules. Normally, we’re closed on Mondays, but we’ll be open that day.”

“We’re expecting anywhere from an additional 50,000 to 250,000 people that weekend,” shared Ashley Colunga, Director of Marketing and Communications for the City of Ennis. “They’re coming from all corners of the globe.”

“We’ve heard from individuals coming from New Zealand, Paris, Beijing, and even a large group from London,” Colunga added.

The city is organizing a significant downtown watch party for the occasion.

“The main event hosted by the city is our downtown watch party,” Colunga explained. “It will feature food trucks, live music by Le Freak, and a countdown to the eclipse. Businesses throughout downtown are also planning watch parties.”

City leaders are taking steps to ensure the safety of everyone amidst the large crowds.

“We’re enhancing ambulance services, emergency response, and communication centers,” Colunga emphasized. “Additional cell towers will be brought in to accommodate the influx of visitors.”

Preparations are underway to ensure that the April 8th eclipse becomes a memorable experience for all.

“While it can feel overwhelming, in the restaurant industry and downtown events, you have to be prepared,” Ruffin reflected. “So, we’re doing our best to get ready.”

Ennis residents will have the opportunity to address any questions or concerns at a town hall meeting scheduled for March 21.
