Carter High School reveals its new ‘Wall of Honor’

During Tuesday night’s event at Carter High School, a new interactive ‘Wall of Honor’ was unveiled, showcasing the achievements of students who have passed through its halls over several decades since its inception.

The unveiling of the Wall of Honor provided a nostalgic journey, allowing attendees to reflect on past accomplishments while embracing the promise of the future. This latest addition to Carter High School garnered pride from school leaders and community partners alike. With a simple touch, visitors gain access to the history, legacy, and contributions of students who have been part of the school’s journey.

Lubbock Smith, Vice President and Director of Community Development for Vista Bank, sponsored the Wall of Honor and played a crucial role in its planning and development, a process spanning three years. Smith emphasized the importance of legacy and community, reflecting on his own experiences since graduating from Carter High School in 2008.

The touch screen display encompasses a wide range of achievements, from academics to the arts to athletic accomplishments. Notably, Carter alumnus and former NFL player Michael Crabtree attended the unveiling event.

Athletic Coordinator Harold Jones, credited as the visionary behind the project, expressed his aspiration to leave a lasting legacy for Carter High School, inspired by the photo displays of accomplished alumni during his own time as a student in the 1980s. He sees the Wall of Honor as a modern continuation of this tradition, offering current students a tangible connection to the achievements of those who came before them.

Smith envisions his daughter potentially attending Carter High School one day and hopes she will be inspired by the achievements showcased on the Wall of Honor. He emphasized the importance of understanding one’s roots and building upon them to create even greater success.

Accompanied by a QR code for off-campus access, the Wall of Honor represents a contemporary tribute to Carter High School’s rich history and promising future.
