UH men’s basketball team triumphs in dominant display over Texas to stay undefeated at home

In a dominant performance at the Fertitta Center on Saturday afternoon, the University of Houston men’s basketball team secured an impressive 82-61 victory over Texas.

During the first half, Houston guard Jamal Shead achieved a significant career milestone, becoming the fourth Cougar in program history to reach 600 assists.

At halftime, Houston held a commanding 40-27 lead over Texas.

Leading the charge for the Cougars was guard L.J. Cryer, who scored 26 points in the game, including six three-pointers. Shead also made a remarkable contribution with 16 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and six steals.

On the opposing side, Longhorns forward Dylan Disu tallied 16 points and seven rebounds, while UT guard Chendall Weaver added 11 points and four rebounds.

Houston demonstrated dominance on both ends of the court, outscoring Texas while also excelling defensively with seven blocks and 13 steals.

The game drew an official attendance of 7,904, setting a new record at the Fertitta Center.

Following the win against Texas, Houston’s overall season record stands at an impressive 22-3, with a conference record of 9-3 in the Big 12.

Looking ahead, the Cougars aim to maintain their undefeated home record as they face Iowa State on Monday at 8 p.m., a game televised on ESPNU.
