Woman hit by a stray bullet inside her that went through the door of her Watauga apartment

Watauga police detectives dedicated their Friday to scouring the Park Vista Townhomes apartment complex in search of doorbell or other surveillance footage that could assist in identifying suspects involved in a shooting incident.

The sole evidence of the shooting at the Park Vista Townhomes in Watauga is a bullet hole observed in an apartment door. Despite not hearing the shots, neighbor Kristine Johnson was alerted to the severity of the situation by the substantial police response.

“I saw a fire truck, an emergency vehicle, a cop car, and then another emergency vehicle and then another police car,” Johnson recounted. “I thought, oh something bad has happened.”

Eyewitnesses reported hearing approximately five shots and observing an individual fleeing the scene in a white car at a high speed.

Upon learning of the shooting, Johnson expressed her dismay, emphasizing her sense of unease and concern for safety.

Watauga police suspect individuals located between apartment buildings may have been engaged in gunfire aimed at each other during a targeted incident. However, a stray bullet penetrated the front door of one apartment, striking a woman inside who was subsequently hospitalized. Her current condition remains undisclosed.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities strive to apprehend the individual responsible and offer reassurance to the apprehensive community.

“It makes me feel terribly unsafe,” Johnson admitted.

The apartment complex office declined to comment on the shooting or the security measures in place.

Police urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in their investigation.
