Bodycam video released of deadly shooting at Joel Osteen’s megachurch in Houston

Houston Police released body camera and surveillance footage of a tragic shooting incident that occurred at celebrity pastor Joel Osteen’s megachurch in early February, resulting in the death of a woman and critical injury to her son.

Assistant Police Keith Seafus explained that the video’s release aims to inform viewers about the officer-involved shooting on Feb. 11. However, he emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, with additional evidence being reviewed.

The security camera footage from Lakewood depicted the shooter, identified as 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno, arriving at the church with her 7-year-old son, Samuel Moreno. The video showed the sequence of events leading to the gunfire as officers responded to the scene.

During the incident, Moreno was heard making alarming statements, including threats about having a bomb. Houston police officers and a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent returned fire, ultimately resulting in Moreno’s death. However, it remains unclear if the child was accidentally shot during the exchange of gunfire.

Paramedics attended to Samuel, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, while another individual was also injured in the shooting.

The motive for Moreno’s attack, which caused panic among worshippers, remains unclear. Investigators discovered antisemitic writings by the shooter and noted her history of mental illness, including a previous emergency detention in 2016.

In a statement shared on social media, Chief Finner expressed concern for Samuel’s condition, stating that the child continues to fight for his life. Updates from Samuel’s grandmother indicated signs of progress, including the ability to breathe without assistance and even a smile from the young boy.

The investigation into the incident remains active, with law enforcement agencies collaborating to examine all aspects thoroughly. The release of the video underscores the commitment to transparency, although many questions remain unanswered.
