Two homicides occur on the same Dallas street hours apart, investigation underway

Dallas’s South Oak Cliff neighborhood experienced a violent weekend with two murders occurring within hours of each other on the same street, including the tragic shooting of a 16-year-old boy.

The first incident prompted Dallas Police to respond to the 3300 block of Southern Oaks Boulevard just before 9 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the 16-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to save him, the teen succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a local hospital.

Five hours later, police were called back to the 3500 block of Southern Oaks Boulevard around 2:10 a.m. This time, officers discovered the body of 38-year-old Victor Taylor Jr. at an apartment complex. Authorities classified Taylor’s death as an “unexplained death” and continued to investigate it as a homicide, as determined by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Residents like Patricia Smith, who resides nearby, recounted hearing the gunfire from inside her apartment, expressing condolences for the victims’ families while lamenting the frequency of such incidents in the neighborhood.

Days later, evidence of violence remained visible: bloodstains marked the stairwell beneath Taylor’s apartment, while the victim’s apartment door showed signs of forced entry.

The community reacted with sadness and concern, acknowledging the tragic nature of having two homicides occur on their street in a single night. However, for some residents, the incidents, while unfortunate, were not entirely unexpected, given the ongoing issues with violence in the area.

While the Dallas Police Department has not confirmed any connection between the two homicides, they appeal to the public for any information regarding both cases. Witnesses or individuals with relevant information are encouraged to reach out to Detective Timothy Johnston through the provided contact details.
