Perot Museum kicks off new exhibits in time for Spring Break

As North Texas school districts prepare for spring break, families are seeking exciting activities to enjoy together. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas is offering a captivating journey to Mars with the highly anticipated NASA exhibit titled “Mission Mars: Perseverance Rover.”

Curated by NASA, the exhibit showcases twin replicas of NASA’s Perseverance rover and Ingenuity helicopter, providing insights into the cutting-edge technology used for exploring the Red Planet. As part of the Mars 2020 mission, the Perseverance rover aims to uncover signs of potential ancient microbial life and collect rock samples from Mars.

Visitors to the Perot Museum can immerse themselves in the Mars experience, exploring authentic examples of the rover’s ongoing explorations, including video footage, images, and sounds captured from the Martian surface. The exhibit opens to the public on Friday, March 8.

In addition to the Mars exhibit, the Perot Museum introduces a new interactive experience titled “Sound Trek: Journey of Sound.” Developed in collaboration with Lucid Hearing, this hands-on exploration delves into how humans experience sound, offering insights into sound definition, auditory perception, and the intricacies of hearing.

Both “Mission Mars: Perseverance Rover” and “Sound Trek: Journey to Sound” are included with the price of a general admission ticket. These exhibits will run through the fall season.

As North Texas anticipates the total solar eclipse on April 8, the Perot Museum aims to inspire curiosity and learning about space exploration. Chris Salvo, a Mars Sample Return System Manager at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, highlights the importance of such exhibits in sparking interest and curiosity among children.

To accommodate spring break visitors, the Perot Museum will extend its hours from Saturday, March 9, through Sunday, March 17, opening daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. During this period, guests will also receive a pair of eclipse glasses with admission, while supplies last.
