Mother of suspect accused of murdering ex’s son in Cloverleaf area arrested, charged, HCSO says

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported on Sunday that Alva Cornejo, the mother of Terry Bryan Rivera, a wanted man accused of murdering his former girlfriend’s 12-year-old son in the Cloverleaf area, has been arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. Cornejo faces a felony charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution.

Terry Bryan Rivera remains on the run following the fatal shooting of Ashley Rostro’s son, Carlos Fernandez, on Monday, March 4.

The incident occurred at the Crossings at Alderson apartments near Freeport Street around 3 a.m. Rivera allegedly entered through an unlocked bedroom window and opened fire, hitting Carlos four times. Carlos was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rivera reportedly used Rostro’s gun in the shooting, which he had stolen from her during a previous break-in. Rostro had sought protection from authorities due to Rivera’s abusive behavior, but she feels her pleas were not adequately addressed.

Rivera faces charges of capital murder, and authorities caution that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
