W. 7th District: Fort Worth Police, neighbors on high alert after recent shootings

Fort Worth Police have implemented a new patrol strategy in the W. 7th Street Entertainment District following two recent shootings, one of which was fatal.

“In our ongoing efforts to address safety concerns in the West 7th cultural district and improve the quality of life in our community, we are deploying a multifaceted patrol strategy,” a spokesperson stated to NBC 5.

The strategy involves a combination of foot patrols, bike patrols, and regular traffic enforcement activities.

Residents like Johnny Carter, who reside near the entertainment district, acknowledge the need for heightened vigilance in today’s uncertain times. Carter expressed his concern, stating, “I can’t be always relaxed how I used to be because we live in a dangerous time now.”

The first incident occurred on March 2 when 29-year-old Karlove Palmer fatally shot 29-year-old Bryson Rogers after a verbal altercation. Palmer, who surrendered to authorities, has been released on bond pending further investigation by his attorneys at The Law Offices of Gill & Brissette.

Another shooting incident occurred the following weekend on the 2800 block of Bledsoe Street, leaving a man critically injured. Despite increased police presence, the suspect remains at large.

While Texas Tech students visiting the district appreciated the visible police presence, emphasizing their sense of security, residents like Carter recognize the importance of staying vigilant and avoiding risky situations.

Carter emphasized the need for caution, advising, “Always be alert. And I know it might not be your problem, but it can become your problem if you’re around the problem.”

The increased police patrols offer some reassurance, but residents remain cautious, prioritizing safety above all else.
