Arlington honors hometown Medal of Honor recipient a year before national museum opens

National Medal of Honor Day, observed on Monday, also marks the countdown to the opening of the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, set to debut in one year.

The commemoration coincided with the 80th anniversary of the final mission flown by local Medal of Honor recipient Col. Neal Kearby during World War II.

A native of Arlington, Kearby attended Arlington High School and the University of Texas at Arlington before achieving renown as one of the war’s most decorated fighter pilots.

In 2010, Arlington unveiled a memorial statue and Texas state historical marker in Kearby’s honor, situated outside City Hall.

Mayor Jim Ross expressed pride in Arlington’s commitment to honoring and recognizing the sacrifices of servicemen and women. He affirmed the city’s status as the most veteran-friendly in America and pledged to further enhance this reputation.

The city is gearing up for the ribbon-cutting and grand opening of the National Medal of Honor Museum on March 25, 2025. The museum, located near Choctaw Stadium and Globe Life Field, promises to be a significant addition to Arlington’s cultural landscape.
