Dallas’ Samuell Farm Park welcoming 2k+ people for total solar eclipse

In two weeks’ time, the moon will cast a significant shadow over the sun, resulting in the Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, which will darken a substantial portion of North Texas for a duration.

The Dallas Parks and Recreation Department, located just east of downtown Dallas, is gearing up to provide a family-friendly experience for optimal eclipse viewing.

Angela O’Connell, supervisor of Dallas Parks and Recreation’s Outdoor Adventures program, has been fielding numerous inquiries as excitement builds for the event.

Dubbed “Totality Dallas,” the city is hosting a three-day festival beginning on April 6, offering various outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, and geocaching across its expansive 600-acre park. Additionally, camping options have been approved, catering to both primitive and RV campers.

Expecting a turnout of around 3,000 day pass holders and campers, O’Connell notes significant interest from individuals traveling from as far as London and Canada.

Ticket sales data reveals a diverse geographic representation, with attendees coming from states like Florida, Colorado, California, and New York.

The event offers day passes starting at $3, with additional activities available at nominal costs. Sunday’s program includes an evening drone show and outdoor movies, while educational sessions featuring speakers like Alysha Shugart from Chile’s Vera C. Rubin Observatory will delve into the science behind the eclipse.

For visitors looking to commemorate the occasion, Totality Dallas-branded merchandise will be available for purchase, including glow-in-the-dark cups, pet bandanas, and folding chairs.

Tickets for Totality Dallas at Samuell Farm are still accessible for purchase online, with options for both day passes and overnight camping.
