HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities are investigating an incident where a deputy shot a suspect allegedly involved in car break-ins in northwest Harris County around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies responded to the scene following multiple reports of suspicious individuals possibly breaking into cars.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a man matching the description provided near a vehicle on Highway 6 near 290.
Reportedly, deputies noticed what appeared to be a firearm in the possession of the suspect and instructed him to drop the weapon.
However, the suspect allegedly refused to comply and attempted to enter a vehicle, leading the deputy to discharge their weapon multiple times, striking the suspect.
Officials have identified the suspect as a 24-year-old man with a prior criminal record, including charges related to motor vehicle theft and weapons offenses. He was on parole at the time of the incident.
The suspect was taken to the hospital and is currently in serious condition.
Both the HCSO and the District Attorney’s Office will conduct separate investigations into the incident. Meanwhile, the deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
