3-year-old cancer survivor’s has her artwork showcased during PGA Tour’s Houston Open

During the PGA TOUR’s Texas Children’s Houston Open, the caddies weren’t just carrying golf bags – they were also carrying a special message.

Justin Hill, one of the caddies, expressed the significance of being part of the event, saying, “Just being one of four, that was pretty special.”

The caddie bibs for the tournament were adorned with artwork created by patients at Texas Children’s Hospital. Among the designs featured throughout the tournament at Memorial Park was a watercolor piece of handprints, created by three-year-old Maggie Hill from The Woodlands. Maggie, who was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma last summer, shared her experience with ABC13 via Zoom.

Throughout her treatments, which included six rounds of chemotherapy, Maggie and her mother Amanda spent long days at Texas Children’s Hospital. To pass the time, they engaged in art activities. Amanda recalled, “There’s only so much Elsa that I can watch,” adding, “So we would do a lot of art, and then she and I would hang her artwork up. I started bringing a roll of tape, and we’d hang everything up in her room just for some color decoration.”

The same artwork that brought comfort to Maggie during her hospital stays was proudly displayed by Ted Scott, the caddie for Scottie Scheffler, the top-ranked golfer in the world.

Justin Hill, Maggie’s father, reflected on the significance of the moment, saying, “There’s been so many moments in this that, you know, you never imagine your life like going down this path… It’s kind of surreal. And this is, at least one of those, that it’s a good moment to have happen.”

Maggie’s family shared her excitement upon learning that her artwork was being seen by so many people. Amanda emphasized the importance of Texas Children’s Hospital’s efforts to showcase the talents of the children, stating, “They really want to showcase what the kids can do… And it just makes them feel like a million bucks.”

While Stephan Jaeger’s victory in the Texas Children’s Houston Open earned him more than $1.6 million, Maggie’s family believes that the true prize lies in the recognition and empowerment of the young patients at Texas Children’s Hospital.
