Man killed, bystander injured in gunfire exchange with deputies in NW Harris County, HCSO says

One fatality and one individual in serious condition have been confirmed following an altercation between a driver and Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies during a traffic stop on Sunday evening.

The incident commenced when a male driver refused to comply with a traffic stop near the 1000 block of West FM 1960, as stated by Sheriff Ed Gonzalez in a social media update.

Subsequently, the driver fled the scene, leading to a brief pursuit that concluded at the intersection of FM 1960 and Ella Blvd.

Upon exiting the vehicle, the man reportedly opened fire on HCSO deputies, prompting return fire from the deputies. The assailant was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to officials, numerous bystanders were present during the altercation, with one female bystander sustaining serious injuries from gunfire. However, she is expected to survive.

Authorities have disclosed that the deceased individual had two outstanding felony warrants.

The incident remains under investigation.
