Woman kidnapped and robbed at Treemont Senior Living Center where 74-year-old was murdered

The tragic death of Carol Webber, a retired 74-year-old teacher who was fatally shot in her apartment at the Treemont Senior Living Community in west Houston, has brought back painful memories for one woman who experienced a harrowing ordeal at the same facility a year prior.

Becky Brown recalls an incident in April 2023 when she was approached by two men wielding a knife while she was charging her phone in her car outside her apartment. The men forced her to withdraw money from Wells Fargo Bank before she was rescued. One of the suspects, Andre Williams, was later apprehended and charged with aggravated kidnapping and robbery.

Brown expressed dismay over the lack of communication and follow-up from management regarding the incident. Although residents received a letter with safety tips, there was no mention of the kidnapping or robbery.

State records show that the senior center received three violations in 2023, including failing to promptly address residents’ complaints.

Despite the passage of a year, Brown is disappointed to see little change in the security measures and communication at the facility. She emphasizes the need for improved security and transparency to protect vulnerable residents, including seniors.

While Brown no longer resides at Treemont, she urges management to enhance security around the building. When contacted for comment, Treemont declined to provide a statement.

Meanwhile, the Houston Police Department continues to investigate the recent shooting of Carol Webber, and anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
