‘I had my daughter in the back’ Driver attacked by Ft Worth street takeover spectators speaks out

A concerned mother who encountered a chaotic scene while driving through a street stunt meetup in south Fort Worth shared her harrowing experience with NBC 5.

Carissa, who opted not to disclose her last name due to concerns of potential reprisals, recounted her frightening ordeal behind the wheel of her grey SUV on Sunday, April 7. She had ventured out with her two-year-old daughter to purchase milk when she found herself navigating through an illegal gathering at the intersection of West Berry and Hemphill Street.

Initially traveling north on Hemphill Street, Carissa observed crowds beginning to congregate. However, it wasn’t until she headed southbound on Hemphill that she encountered a traffic standstill lasting approximately 30 minutes.

Expressing her frustration, Carissa revealed she called 911 to report the situation, but was informed that authorities were already aware of the incident. Despite honking and urging to be let through, she remained trapped in the gridlock.

As the situation escalated, with cars performing reckless maneuvers and crowds cheering them on, Carissa’s frustration mounted. Attempting to extricate herself from the scene, she encountered resistance from the crowd, who began assaulting her vehicle.

Mobbed by individuals kicking, punching, and pushing her SUV, Carissa feared for her safety and that of her daughter in the backseat. Matters worsened when gunshots rang out, prompting the crowd to disperse.

While the alleged shooter remains unidentified, Fort Worth Police have apprehended multiple drivers and cited numerous spectators. However, Carissa expressed disappointment at the delayed police response and the subsequent requirement for her to file an online police report, despite the damage sustained by her vehicle.

With her SUV bearing significant dents and damage, Carissa hopes that insurance will cover the repairs, emphasizing the need for accountability and swift action in addressing such incidents.
