The Wall That Heals: Honorary exhibit for Vietnam War veterans comes to North Texas

The Wall That Heals, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial accompanied by a mobile Education Center, has arrived in North Texas.

This exhibit pays tribute to the more than three million Americans who served in the Vietnam War and will be stationed at Grand Park in Frisco from May 2 to May 5. It bears the names of the 58,281 individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice during the conflict.

Transported in a 53-foot trailer, The Wall That Heals unfolds into a mobile Education Center upon arrival, offering an immersive experience recounting the Vietnam War’s narrative. The replica, spanning 375 feet in length and standing at 7.5 feet high, provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the monument’s imposing presence and make name rubbings of the honored service members. The exhibit will be accessible 24 hours a day and admission is free to the public.

Shenna Lawless, Commander of Frisco Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8273, expressed enthusiasm about bringing The Wall That Heals to Frisco for the first time. She emphasized the importance of honoring and remembering those who served in the Vietnam War, underscoring the community’s dedication to expressing gratitude for their sacrifices.

The mobile Education Center exhibit encompasses various components, including digital photo displays featuring “Hometown Heroes” from Frisco and neighboring areas, as well as honoring local Vietnam veterans through the VVMF’s In Memory program. Additionally, video displays offer insights into the history and significance of The Wall, while educational exhibits depict items traditionally left at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Other highlights include a replica of the In-Memory plaque, a map of Vietnam, and a chronological overview of the Vietnam War.

Since its inception in 1996, the exhibit has traveled to over 700 communities across the United States. Operated by the VVMF, the nonprofit responsible for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., The Wall That Heals is the sole traveling exhibit linked to The Wall, featuring its largest replica. Local volunteers, along with two VVMF staff members, oversee the exhibit, engage with visitors and students, and ensure a respectful atmosphere around The Wall.
