Woman pulled from a burning condo was a victim of gun violence

On Monday morning, Duncanville firefighters responding to a fire at a condominium made a grim discovery when they found the body of a woman who had been shot inside the residence.

According to Duncanville police, firefighters received a call about a fire at a condo located on the 600 block of Oriole Boulevard, near Camp Wisdom Road and Interstate 20, shortly after 6 a.m.

Upon entering the residence, firefighters discovered an unresponsive adult woman. Sadly, she was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced deceased at the scene by fire department medics.

The woman was identified by relatives as 55-year-old Regina Phillips, who resided in the condo. Described as someone who loved fashion, pearls, and the color pink, Phillips had worked at CPS for nearly two decades, according to her family.

Duncanville Police initiated an investigation into the incident, interviewing neighbors and witnesses. They identified a “person of interest” who was subsequently taken into custody on unrelated charges. However, no further details about the individual in custody have been disclosed, and no other suspects have been apprehended.

According to relatives, the person arrested is a man whom Phillips had been dating.

Authorities confirmed that there were no other occupants in the residence, and preliminary evidence suggested that the incident was isolated.

This wasn’t the first time police had been called to the home. They had responded to a verbal disturbance the previous day, but no offense was determined to have occurred at that time.

The investigation into Phillips’ death and the fire remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Duncanville Police Department at 972-223-6111 ext. 4.
