Lights Out, DFW! is asking for volunteers

The Lights Out initiative in North Texas is seeking assistance from local residents.

As spring bird migration is underway, many Texans are contributing by switching off non-essential lights between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Now, the initiative is reaching out for volunteers to aid in collision monitoring efforts in Fort Worth and Dallas. Volunteers play a crucial role in rescuing stunned or injured birds, collecting valuable data for research purposes, and advocating for a darker night sky in our community.

Those interested in volunteering can sign up at tcatexas.org.

Spring migration occurs from March 1 through June 15, with the peak migration period spanning from April 19 to May 12.

The Lights Out initiative, supported by the National Audubon Society, Audubon Texas, and Texan by Nature, serves as an educational campaign promoting awareness and action to safeguard migratory birds by reducing nighttime light pollution.
