Family of woman found shot to death in burning home speaks out; Police plan press conference

Duncanville police are set to provide additional details regarding the tragic discovery of a woman found shot to death inside her burning residence.

The victim, identified by relatives as Regina Phillips, had recently celebrated her 55th birthday.

“I’m really numb,” expressed Jessica Phillips, Regina’s youngest daughter.

Jessica, who shared a close bond with her mother, revealed that they resided together in the Duncanville condo where Regina Phillips was discovered shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday, as per police reports.

“In my room, in my bed. That hurts knowing who did it and I was around him, having conversations while my mom was at work, I don’t know, it’s just a different kind of hurt,” Jessica lamented.

Regina Phillips, known for her nearly two-decade career with CPS, displayed her love for children both at her workplace and in her personal life, according to her family.

“She loved us unconditionally and she showed us every day,” Jessica emphasized.

According to Jessica, she last saw her mother on Sunday after an altercation between her mother and her mother’s boyfriend at the condo.

Although police were called to the scene, they reportedly left after determining that no crime had been committed.

Just over 12 hours later, firefighters returned to the scene, discovering Regina Phillips’ body in her burning residence with a gunshot wound to the head.

“What happened? What time?” Jessica questioned, echoing the unanswered inquiries surrounding the tragic event.

Upon learning of the emergency at home, Jessica rushed to the scene and encountered the individual later identified by police as a ‘person of interest’ in the case. Relatives identified the person as Regina Phillips’s boyfriend.

“I asked him where my mom was and he shrugged his shoulders,” Jessica recalled.

Police revealed that the person of interest, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended on unrelated charges after leaving the scene and subsequently returning.

“You just violated somebody. Not only have you messed up our lives. You messed up yours, as well,” remarked Regina’s sister, Tasheana Brown.

Tasheana and Sable Brown fondly remembered their sister as the life of the party, known for her signature high heels, pearls, and her compassionate nature.

“I’m going to miss the unconditional love that she gave, the compassion,” Sable expressed.
