I-610 North Loop reopens 12 hours after deadly crash involving big rig’s lost load

A collision involving a truck on the westbound lanes of the I-610 North Loop at Homestead resulted in the closure of all main lanes in both directions, leading to significant traffic delays on Wednesday.

Tragically, one person lost their life in the incident, prompting an investigation into the crash, which involved a big rig and a passenger vehicle. The impact also caused damage to the concrete barrier in the center of the freeway.

The collision occurred around 3:10 p.m., according to reports received by the Houston Police Department. The big rig, transporting a bulldozer, collided with a Mazda as the latter attempted to change lanes. This collision caused the big rig driver to lose control, resulting in the bulldozer becoming detached from its trailer.

The bulldozer then veered into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes, striking two cars. While initial reports from the Houston Fire Department indicated that two patients were transported from the scene, sadly, the driver of one of the cars was pronounced dead by police.

As a result of the crash, all traffic was diverted off the road, leading to extensive backups. However, by Thursday morning, the freeway had reopened to traffic.
