Now might be a good time to get a roof inspection as damaging hail pounds North Texas

Severe storms sweeping through North Texas this week have kept local roofers exceptionally busy.

In particular, the communities of Pecan Plantation in Johnson and Hood County were directly impacted by hailstones as large as golf balls and tennis balls during Thursday evening’s storms.

Experts are advising homeowners to consider scheduling a roof inspection given the recent weather conditions.

Trisytn Richardson, a restoration manager for Major League Roofing of Frisco, emphasized the importance of inspecting roofs even if there are no visible leaks. He explained that hail can cause damage that may not be immediately apparent but could lead to potential leaks over time.

Richardson stressed the necessity of treating roof inspections as routine maintenance, likening them to checking HVAC systems or plumbing, which are typically examined annually.

He highlighted the prevalence of hailstorms in North Texas as a compelling reason for regular roof inspections, emphasizing that it’s better to address any issues promptly rather than risk more significant problems later on.

Richardson also cautioned homeowners about the importance of choosing a reputable contractor for roof inspections and repairs. He advised against paying upfront for inspections and recommended being cautious of contractors who offer free inspections or pressure homeowners into immediate repairs.

Moreover, Richardson emphasized the importance of selecting contractors who are preferred vendors for major insurance carriers and who are licensed with reputable organizations such as the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) and the North Texas Roofing Contractors Association (NTRCA). Accreditation with the Better Business Bureau was also recommended as a positive indicator of a contractor’s reliability and quality of service.

While scheduling inspections sooner rather than later is advised, Richardson suggested that summertime, when severe weather tends to subside, is an opportune time for homeowners to prioritize roof maintenance.
