Houston Weather: Dense fog today, severe weather this weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We’re keeping a watchful eye on the severe weather potential for this weekend, but current expectations are that Houston will likely remain storm-free through Friday. This fog should lift out by 10 a.m. in most neighborhoods away from the coast. It’ll turn into a warm, humid day with highs in the mid 80s. Today is the best day to finish outdoor activities or plans ahead of the weekend.

DENSE FOG ADVISORY: The sea fog is getting thicker along the coast and offshore. The dense fog will likely spread into Houston overnight, so it might be a slower commute Friday morning.

The next big rainmaker to impact Texas arrives this weekend. Heavy rainfall from slow-moving thunderstorms will be our biggest concern with this weather system. Collin says the timing of the rain is still difficult to pin down, but the first wave of storms could arrive Saturday morning, and the last wave of storms may not leave until Sunday evening. While we do not anticipate it will rain the entire weekend, it would be wise to have a “plan B” in mind for any outdoor activities just in case your plans miss one of the breaks between the storms

Most areas will receive 1-3″ of rain, with isolated areas getting between 4-6″. Street flooding will be the most likely impact. While bayous, creeks, and rivers may rise, they are currently expected to stay within their banks. Large hail, damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and isolated tornadoes are also possible, especially on Saturday night into Sunday.
