Son accused of running over father outside NW Harris County YMCA arrested in Mississippi

A man accused of running over his father outside a northwest Harris County YMCA facility in April is finally behind bars, police say.

Devon Amos, 24, was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi, early Wednesday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. He facing a charge of aggravated assault of a family member causing serious bodily injury. He  allegedly ran over his father, Cedrick Amos, 42, after the two brawled outside the YMCA along the Tomball Parkway on April 27, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

After the fight, the son allegedly hopped in a car and hit his father with the vehicle, Gonzalez said.

“The son circled the parking lot at a pretty high rate of speed and struck the father a second time,” Gonzalez said on the day of the incident.

The impact left a dent in the windshield, according to earlier reports. Devon Amos left the parking lot and later ditched the vehicle on FM 1960, Gonzalez said.

The son has been on the run ever since, but was picked up by the Gulf Coast US Marshal Service Task Force. Cedrick Amos remains in the hospital.

Devon Amos is facing up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.
