16-year-old drowns in San Jacinto River

A teen boy drowned Sunday when he went under playing catch in a marina in northeast Harris County, officials said.

The boy, who was visiting from California, hit a deep spot in the water at Magnolia Garden Park at 18041 Riverside Street when he went missing, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The popular park borders the San Jacinto River

He couldn’t swim and wasn’t wearing a life jacket, authorities said.
